Wildlife nest boxes for hollow-dependent native species

Where Have All The Hollows Gone?

Many native animals depend on tree hollows for survival, yet hollows can take more than a century to form. Nest boxes are one way of safeguarding native species and boosting resilience across Australia's fragmented landscape.

The Rewilding Factory Story

Many of Australia's native birds and mammals depend on tree hollows for shelter and breeding. The problem is that suitable hollows can take well over a century to form naturally, and in many landscapes they're becoming increasingly scarce.

I've worked as a carpenter and joiner for more than thirty years and continue to run Habitat Works, my carpentry and joinery business, in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. In my thirties, I returned to university to study Environmental Science, which led to several years working as an ecologist across the NSW mid and far north coast.

Working in the field gave me a greater appreciation of the importance of tree hollows and the wildlife that depends on them.

Looking back, The Rewilding Factory feels like the natural meeting point between my years in the building industry and my time working in ecology. Every nest box is crafted in my Northern Rivers workshop using quality materials and designed to provide safe, durable habitat for Australia's hollow-dependent wildlife for years to come.
